Indulge to your heart’s content in glorious popcorn. This family-owned shop makes a wide variety of popcorn flavors to entice you into becoming a major fan. They use quality corn and fresh ingredients including real butter and fine chocolate. With over 20 flavors made fresh daily, you might want to sample a few – yes they offer free samples – before deciding on which to take home. Flavors range from the trusty buttered popcorn, caramel and white cheddar to cinnamon red hot, Old Bay and watermelon. Ted and Lindsey Jagucki, husband and wife, moved from Ohio to the Outer Banks in 2004. They fell in love with the area, which is also where Lindsey’s family is from. After finishing college, the two set out on an adventure for North Carolina’s barrier islands and opened a pizzeria in Corolla. “We came down here for pizza, saw a need for popcorn, and nobody was really doing the popcorn game yet, so we decided to open a popcorn shop,” says Ted Jagucki. He grew up eating popcorn, and even has some family recipes for the airy snack. Running a small business for that long is no easy feat, however, Jagucki attributes the success of the popcorn shop to the high-quality ingredients used to create over 20 gourmet popcorn flavors. “The biggest thing is we use really, really good ingredients. Everything is handmade,” he explains. “We don’t buy any pre-packaged mixes or anything like that.” When a customer walks into Outer Banks Popcorn Shoppe, their senses are immediately met with the smell of rich, buttery caramel that is made on-site at both locations. That tantalizing caramel recipe is used to create two of Outer Banks Popcorn Shoppe’s best-selling flavors—Drizzle, caramel popcorn drizzled with white and milk chocolate, and Corolla Crunch, caramel popcorn coated with almonds and cashews which Jagucki calls “like a Crunch ‘n Munch on steroids.”
The Beef Jerky Outlet story is pretty simple really. Take the highest quality USDA approved jerky you can find and build a store around it. Make it in small batches so it will always be fresh. Fill the store with so many varieties and flavors of “made in the good old USA” jerky that folks will be amazed. Oh yeah, make the experience fun too. Give out lots of free samples so guests will not HOPE they like their choice . . . they will KNOW they LOVE it! Fill in any extra space with some of the best popcorns, cheeses, peanut butters (the list goes on and on) and even throw in some bug suckers . . . just for fun. The simple idea is - everyday and in all ways create an atmosphere that jerky lovers and their families can come into and relax. If you see some of our guests kind of dancing around the store while sampling some truly great jerky you’ll get what we mean. Amy McDonnell and her husband Kevin McCoy have vacationed in the Outer Banks for years. In 2014, they purchased their dream home on the beach, with hopes of one day retiring there. Both lawyers, McDonnell and McCoy figured it would be a long time before they would be permanently at home in the Outer Banks. But when the opportunity to make OBX their primary residence arose in 2016, they jumped at the chance.“We’ve wanted to live here for a very long time,” McDonnell says. “When we decided to make the move, we wanted to do something to immerse ourselves and truly become part of the community.”What better way to connect with the community than over delicious snacks? The couple, along with McDonnell’s father, decided to open Beef Jerky Outlet in Kitty Hawk in 2017. The following year, they opened the Corolla location. This year, the stores are being rebranded as Beef Jerky Experience, to better reflect all that the place has to offer.“We love that the franchise is a family-owned business, and all the jerky is made by them in Tennessee and Michigan. The beef jerky is made from high-quality eye of round beef in small batches, which is what makes it so great,” McDonnell says.

Donutz-On-A-Stick- where visual stimulation meets taste bud overload! Carnival Treats at the Beach—With Flavorful Creations and Allergy-Friendly Options, Donutz on a Stick Serves Up Sweet Treats for Everyone David and Stephanie were not always in the business of carnival confections. In fact, Stephanie was a fitness instructor and David worked in the computer field. But he loved donuts and she loved ice cream, and when they saw an opportunity to bring their favorite treats to beachgoers, they jumped on it. In 2014, the couple opened their first Donutz on a Stick—a family-run, family-friendly dessert shop on the boardwalk. They quickly realized that in order to serve everyone, they would need to get creative. “We had a family who would come in, and one of the little boys would have to wait by the door because of his gluten allergy,” David says. “That didn’t sit well with us. We wanted everyone to come under the same roof no matter what kind of allergies they had. And we continue to work towards that goal.” The Williams’ daughter Desireé spent six weeks experimenting until she created a gluten-free donut that was totally safe and delicious. Gluten-free donuts are now a huge part of the business, with more than 1,000 being served each day, just out of the Duck location. But you will want to call or stop by to reserve them in advance. The Williams’ other three children, David, Justin and Christian, have all invented menu items as well, such as Christian’s donut milkshake, which features hot and fresh cooked donuts blended into a milkshake with another donut on top making it picture perfect. While all the Williams have created menu items, the most popular pick—the donut sundae—was actually a happy accident. “We were being featured in a local magazine and we could only have one photo for the article,” David says. Since both ice cream and donuts were equally popular, “we built the donut sundae for the photo and we discovered after the photoshoot that it tasted amazing. It was completely serendipitous.” The Williams family is constantly creating and improving upon their recipes. At the heart of it all is a desire to see everyone come in and enjoy an experience together. They want to bring the carnival to your mouth. “No matter how busy we are—even if there’s a line down the boardwalk—every customer gets that engagement and service from us,” they say. The family has since opened a second location in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area.
