B&B Antiques is chocked full of eye-catching collectibles and treasures from the past along with lots of “other cool stuff.”You could spend days browsing through the quilts, art, furniture, glassware, lamps - vintage baking supplies to old-fashioned baby strollers - and all the knick-knacks in between and still not see everything. And there’s lots of OBX memorabilia as well, including prints of the old Nags Head Casino, old photos with local fisherman displaying their catches, many beautiful duck decoys and old fishing lures and buoys.There’s a whole section on cooking supplies, including the old mixing bowls they don’t make any more, glass juicers that never lose their appeal and older, but often better, utensils for use or display. Besides antiques and the vintage culinary collection, the other cool stuff includes men’s and women’s jewelry, nice fabric and needlework art - and a whole “cave” of hunting and bar paraphernalia, with old tools, fishing and hunting collectibles and books. If you are an antique hunter and are looking for an eclectic selection, you can’t miss a trip to Freedom Antiques at Buccaneer’s Walk in Kitty Hawk.  Owners Sue Norris and Grady Lassiter opened the doors to this quaint antique shop in 2011 and are proud to carry a wide selection of vintage pieces that keep customers returning again and again. From antique fishing items like fishing poles to vintage pottery, Freedom Antique’s is an antique enthusiast’s paradise.  

You could spend all day in Kellogg’s Cottage Shop and still not see everything it offers. Mattress Xpress, owned by Outer Banks Furniture, sells top of the line mattresses from Serta, Carolina Mattress Guild, Spring Air, Back Supporter, and Nature’s Image.  Bed frames and roll-away beds are also in stock, as well as mattress pads, mattress bags and protectors, and other accessories for beds. To top it off, the store is locally-owned and operated by knowledgeable staff, and all the beds are made in North Carolina.  Free delivery is available within 24 hours of purchase, and removal of the old bed is also free.  Package pricing is offered for rental homes.

High quality furniture and home décor that has been “gently used” is sold at this shop that opened in 2012 in the art district at Gallery Row.  Much of this second generation merchandise is from foreclosures, relocations or from interior designer upgrades, so everything is in excellent condition. It’s clear when you walk in that the store is not offering your standard thrift store fare. OBXConsign! carries sought-after brands like Broyhill, Stanley, Henry Link, Lexington, Lee Industries and American Drew at discount prices. Nearly every inch of every room is filled with fine tables, over-stuffed chairs, lamps, sofas, dining chairs, and outdoor wicker furniture. There is also a selection of local art, some Sally Huss products, and gift cards and prints. Consignments are accepted with a 90-day contract. When it’s sold, 60 percent goes to the seller, and 40 percent to the store. 

Locally-owned Outer Banks Furniture, located at Milepost 14 off the Bypass, bills itself as having the largest showroom on the Outer Banks. With more than 20,000 square feet at the Outer Banks Mall store filled with furniture, lamps, rugs, wall art and accessories, that claim is not hard to believe. The store carries dozens of brand names, including American Drew, Bassett, Vanguard, New Energy, Serta, Kincaid and Hooker Furniture. And an additional 12,000 square-foot warehouse in Duck keeps a large inventory in stock. Design consultation is offered at no cost, and a cottage furnishings package is also available. Free delivery and setup is offered with all purchases from Corolla to Hatteras, Grandy to Roanoke Island. Shipping ,with setup included, is also available to any of the lower 48 states.

Locally owned and operated, Rock-A-Bye Baby boasts that it is the only full service kids store on the Outer Banks. This store may look small from the outside, but don’t let appearances fool you. It is stuffed to the gills with charming, irresistible baby, toddler’s and young children’s brand-name clothing, toys and gear, from birth to size 7. Owner Cindy Floyd, who has been in children’s retail for more than 31 years, clearly knows her product lines. From merchandise for pregnant women and fun gifts for baby showers, to christening and baptism gifts and preemie and newborn items --- bedding, diaper bags, rattles --- to bowls, silverware, furniture, baby jewelry, baby slings, and of course, kiddie OBX T-shirts --- you can find it all here, both new and like-new. Need a pop-up beach cabana to keep Elmo out of the sun?  It’s here! There’s also a great selection of first birthday party items, and furniture and gear are available to rent.   

Themed on recycled and repurposed materials, Seagreen Gallery is one of the newest and most innovative art establishments on the Outer Banks.  This is a great place to find a one-of-a-kind gift for someone who has everything. 

From computer repair to home office supplies, Staples is the modern version of the old stationary store.  And it does in fact sell stationary, as well as photo paper, printer paper, notebooks and legal pads. Nearly anything you need for a school project or an office presentation is available here, from pens to paper clips, to yes, staples. This chain store, located next to TJ Maxx in Nags Head, is well organized and has signs pointing customers to the products they need. In addition to standard office necessities, Staples also stocks a large supply of computer equipment and laptops; digital cameras and accessories; Kindle e-readers; digital recorders and GPS; wireless technology and accessories; and smart phone accessories.  There is an excellent selection of computer programs, including for Mac. A variety of desks, file cabinets and rolling desk chairs can be found at the rear of the store. 

This  recently opened chain discount store was welcomed by many Outer Bankers, who appreciate a good deal and quality merchandise. Located on the border of Nags Head and Kill Devil Hills, its central Outer Banks location makes T.J. Maxx a popular destination for locals and visitors looking to save a little money on a designer item.  Prices range from rock-bottom to merely affordable, but the inventory is always changing, so part of the fun is unearthing surprises. Shoppers can find everything from sexy lingerie to business suits and sportswear for women, to surf wear and jeans and dress pants for men. There’s also plenty of kids’ clothes, swimwear, home décor, beauty and cosmetic items and jewelry to browse. It’s just kind of fun to come in and see what T.J. Maxx has to offer week to week. 

An offshoot of Kellogg Supply Company, a building and home center operating on the Outer Banks since 1946, The Cottage Shop is filled with beach-y house wares and furnishings designed for Outer Banks living. The store also stocks decorative accessories, gifts for special occasions and holidays, and even stylish hats and sandals. Whatever a homeowner needs for their beach cottage, they’ll likely be able to find it here. There’s kitchen ware, sheets and bedding, bath items, outdoor carpeting, candles, Outer Banks and Southern cookbooks, lamps, decorative pillows and even gourmet salsa and grits.
