More than 2,000 shipwrecks sunk off the Coast of North Carolina in what’s called the Graveyard of the Atlantic. With all that history floating around, it was only natural to build a museum to honor and preserve the maritime culture of the Outer Banks. A state-of-the-art structure, the year round museum houses and displays artifacts, and presents a variety of exhibits and interprets the rich maritime culture that includes war, piracy, ghost ships and more. Artifacts include thoseex from the USS Monitor, which sank 16 miles off the Hatteras coast. The lobby features the stunning and original, 1854, First Order Lens from the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Current hibits include those on piracy and the Civil War on Hatteras Island.

Allen purchased the first location in Duck from Reid Carter, who started the concept in Richmond, Virginia. “When people would walk in, their eyes would light up seeing all those taps and the variety of beers that we had,” Allen says. “People were mesmerized.” When Allen, an Outer Banks native, found out that Carter was selling, she bought the Duck location and shifted its focus to showcase local and regional beers. “Reid had a great vision,” she shares. “I tried to take it to the next level and continued with that at the new store.” Both the Duck and Kitty Hawk locations boast up to 42 taps—with different options at each store—featuring local Outer Banks breweries along with regional and national selections. “We do have a large number of taps, but it’s the beer itself that really shines,” Allen explains. “We take a lot of pride in finding local and regional beers that are highly rated.” Purchase four and six packs or choose from more than 100 single beers that are already cold and ready to enjoy. Mix and match the singles to create a personalized six pack.When you visit, take some time to hang out and explore the array of flavors with samples, in-house pints and flights. Then load up the ones you like the most in a growler or pint to-go. Visitors in the need of a little action-packed fun can head to the tri-villages’ newest destination for entertainment, Highway 12 Amusements. Officially opening in 2017, this expansive indoor amusement center has a variety of games and attractions to keep visitors fully engrossed and active all day long.

Jennette’s Pier in Nags Head offers fishing and fun for the entire family! Go fishing, take a family fishing class or simply walk out to the end of this 1,000-foot-long, concrete ocean pier.

We specialize in: braids, hair wraps, feather extensions, as well as henna tattoos, air brush tattoos, stepping stones, and making your own sand art creations. We offer fun for the whole family and are great for birthday parties.  In addition to braids and braid services, we offer many activities to choose from, and we can accommodate big parties. The Outer Banks Family YMCA is a great place for all ages. Programming offered for children, teens, and adults to stay active in mind, body, or spirit. Though COVID-19 restrictions may currently limit the use of the YMCA facility, outdoor fitness, camp and recreational/lap swimming are available to participate in!
