Atlantic Dance has been teaching kids dance on the Outer Banks since 1995. Atlantic Dance offers classes in tap, jazz, hip hop and lyrical with a primary concentration in classical ballet. At Atlantic Dance, little girls learn grace and achieve development through music and dance. Ballet introduces girls to poise and self confidence and encourages creativity and discipline.

Avalon Fishing Pier offers everything you need for a long, enjoyable day (or night!) of fishing. First built in 1958, Avalon Fishing Pier is about 700 feet long, stretching out to the Atlantic Ocean over 12 to 15 feet of water.  Located at milepost 6 on the beach road, there is a parking lot for pier customers. After paying a modest fee, you’ll receive a stamp good for an entire day of fishing. Three-day and week-long passes as well as season passes also are available. Bring up to three rods per person and take advantage of convenient cleaning sinks.The pier features a snack bar and tackle shop with bait and rentals. Bait sold at the pier shop includes bloodworms, squid, mullet, shrimp and artificial lures. You’ll be able to enjoy a reasonably priced beer at the snack shop.When the fish are biting, you can catch everything from blues, croakers, flounder, trout, mullet, pompano and spanish to spot and stripers -- even bigger fish such as cobia and kings! The fish are known to bite on their own schedule, but often the best action comes early morning and late afternoon, about an hour before sunset.A webcam displays up-to-the-minute conditions at the pier on Avalon Pier’s website as well as other websites. The pier also is a common stop for surfers and bodyboarders who are looking for waves to surf in Kill Devil Hills.

Aviation Park in Kill Devil Hills offers a fun, active retreat from the beach for everyone in the family. The town park offers a playground, ball field, frog pond, fitness trail, roller hockey rink and the very popular Aviation Skatepark.

The Avon Fishing Pier is a Hatteras Island landmark, attracting fishermen from all over the country who want to try their luck at reeling in one of the notoriously large red drums that make seasonal appearances.

Inside, the Aycock Brown Welcome Center is a treasure trove of area information, and visitors will find hundreds of pamphlets on local attractions and activities, area menus, vacation rental and real estate catalogs, and local guide books. In addition, the Visitors Center offers dozens of coupons and coupon booklets for Outer Banks vacationers, making it an attractive first-stop after arriving on the OBX for visitors who love a good bargain.

Given the small size and relative isolation of Hatteras Island, it's hard to image that the small collection of towns can accommodate just about anyone, including and especially high flyers who visit the Outer Banks by airplane. But surprisingly, Hatteras Island is home to its own airport, the Billy Mitchell Airport, and though small in size and limited in facilities, visitors to this Frisco oceanside airstrip will find more or less everything they need, surrounded by some of the most gorgeous scenery on the Outer Banks, and with a few extra amenities that are an unexpected benefit to Hatteras Island newcomers.

Camp Hatteras Resort features over 400 sites with concrete pads, which include all the convieniences you need in a full hook-up site while enjoying your family vacation at the beach. The pinnacle of fishing on the Outer Banks, however, is and has always been Cape Point. Ask any long-time Hatteras Island fisherman about Cape Point, and they'll gladly tell you about incredible catches, near-misses, and the occasional vehicle getting stuck in the deep, shifting sands.

Or you can get a birds-eye view yourself, parasailing to heights up to 1,000 feet.For more excitement, Causeway’s 4-stroke Yamaha Wave Runners will speed up the pace as well as cool you off on a hot summer day. Whatever your skill level, Causeway’s staff is available to make sure your ride is safe and fun.Last, but not least, Causeway offers equipment and lessons in the world’s fastest growing water sport - paddleboarding. Whenever you need a break from the beach, Cloud Nine is a great place for some creative renewal. This very cool shop was established here in 1988, and its since been a favorite for locals and visitors looking for unique creations from Outer Banks and regional artisans -- pottery, paintings, jewelry -- but especially to indulge one’s own creative yearnings by making earrings or a necklace, or who knows? There’s a vast selection -- the largest on the beach -- of the prettiest beads of all sizes and colors, including authentic trade and vintage beads, gorgeous seaglass and other jewelry-making supplies to choose from to fashion say, an ankle bracelet or headband.And if you don't know how to start, owner Ginnie Flowers and her staff offer weekly classes and workshops, specializing in seaglass wire wrapping and beading. Along with sharing her talents and supporting over 50 local artists and designers, Ginnie gives back to the community in a number of other ways. She contributes to Dare County’s Arts Council, Animal Rescue, Surfrider Foundation and, to encourage children's literacy, she started a "Read for Beads" program.You'll not want to miss Ginnie's treasure of a shop, tucked away near a corner in Pirate's Quay Shopping Center, just south of the YMCA. Club Hatteras is available free to all guests who vacation with Hatteras Realty. The Club has the largest swimming pool on the island, along with a 6-hole putting green, a kids’ playground and two regulation tennis courts.It offers early arrivers a great way to begin their vacation even before check in. While you’re waiting on your rental to be ready, you can be swimming in the pool or lounging and surfing the net poolside. Even after checking out, you can turn in your keys and still enjoy an afternoon at the beach, then a shower and change of clothes at the Club before heading home in much less traffic.There’s also an on-site concession stand with sandwiches, snow cones, ice cream, snacks, favorite beverages and often-needed supplies. As an extra attraction, Club Hatteras offers a number of programs and activities mostly at the Avon office, including subjects like coastal cooking and local “history & mystery.“ Watercolor classes and kids activities are available for a very reasonable fee, and other activities, including Aerobics at the pool on Tuesdays and Thursdays, are free.The Club’s tennis courts, putting green and playground are open year round. The heated Jr. Olympic Pool is open mid-May through mid-October.Hatteras Realty says that without Club Hatteras, ‘it’s just not a vacation.”

Coastal Creamery OBX sells a wide variety of frozen treats: hard scooped ice cream, soft serve frozen yogurts, sorbet, and custard, and our dairy free selection of Italian Ices. They serve in cones or cups with all of the toppings available and offer old fashioned milkshakes, banana splits, and sundaes. Coastal Creamery also takes orders for ice cream cakes and sells ice cream in quarts to take home. Their bumper boats are a huge attraction for children of all ages. Coastal Creamery is a family destination. They are located on the 16 milepost on the Soundside in Nags Head.

Tucked away along Schoolhouse Road and shaded by a cluster of Live Oaks, the Historic Corolla Schoolhouse is a lesser-known but nevertheless important attraction in the coastal town of Corolla. The schoolhouse was originally constructed sometime between 1890 and 1905, (with some lifelong locals attesting that their older relatives attended the school in the mid-1890s.)

Dare County Family Recreation Park, or Rec Park, serves as the county’s focal point for youth and adult activities. The park features tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields and a playground. Swings, slides, a climbing wall and a covered picnic pavilion are available at the playground and nearby are a tennis practice wall and two batting cages. Also at the site are temperature-controlled press boxes, a concession stand and restrooms.Dare County Youth Center, located at Rec Park, serves the community as a safe after-school destination for middle and high-school students and offers many organized programs for youth and adults as well. In addition to soccer and baseball, other sports programs it hosts are gymnastics, football, ultimate frisbee, lacrosse, softball, fishing, surfing and volleyball. The Northern Beach division of the Youth Center also co-sponors a number of teaching camps and activities in archery, etiquette, golf, music and the arts - along with sailing and other water sports - to name only a few.Family Recreation Park is located behind Outer Banks Brewing Station and is within walking distance of the Kill Devil Hills Library and Post Office, the Baum Center and Kill Devil Hills Cooperative Gallery, which also offers arts and craft classes for kids. It’s also near both First Flight Middle and First Fligh High School.

Located in one of the Outer Banks most beautiful wooded areas, the David Paul Pruitt, Jr. Park is a small recreation area just off the Bypass near the entrance of Kitty Hawk Woods. It’s a family-oriented neighborhood playground that has play equipment for both young and older kids inside a fence-enclosed area and picnic tables on the outside near the parking area. Included are slides, jungle gyms and swings, along with a rare find at playgrounds these days - the popular push-jump-on-and-ride-merry-go-round. Nearby is a multiuse path for all family members to enjoy biking, walking or jogging. The shaded path winds in and out of roadside trees for about two miles, ending at Sandy Run Park, which features a beautiful boardwalk loop through the Kitty Hawk Woods Coastal Preserve.The playground and path were named to honor Pruitt’s 20 years of service to the Town of Kitty Hawk as council member and mayor pro tem and his service to the country during WWII in the 82nd Airborne and later as Master Sergeant with the U.S. Air Force.David Paul Pruitt, Jr. Park is located next to the Dominion Power building on Woods Road and is open to the public.

Enjoy a night on the town that is steeped in local history, culture, and miles of fun with a show at the acclaimed Deepwater Theater and Music Hall on Ocracoke Island. Serving as the venue for regular summertime concerts and shows, as well as the host of seasonal or special events, this famed local theatre has a lot of entertainment to offer for visitors of all ages.

The southern Outer Banks has countless treasures that are buried in the outlying deep blue waters, and scuba divers can experience what the Graveyard of the Atlantic is all about with a trip that is hosted by Dive Hatteras. Offering custom diving charters for small parties on a large and spacious boat, Dive Hatteras is a favorite resource for a shipwreck diving adventure off the coast of Hatteras Island.

The Field Research Facility in northern Duck is known for its 1840 foot long pier and its internationally recognized research. It’s mission is “Advancing coastal knowledge through observation and discovery.”Established by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1977, FRF is part of the Field Data Collection and Analysis Branch headquartered in Vicksburg, Mississippi and the U.S. Department of Defense.Along with the pier, also essential to FRF’s operation are instruments that regularly record the changing waves, winds, tides, and currents and specialized vehicles like the unique, three-wheeled “CRAB.” Though it appears top-heavy, this 35-foot tripod with a wide base and liquid-filled tires is able to operate “in all but the most severe storms,” says FRF.The observatory’s ongoing projects include studies to improve emergency response to cyclones, a coastal flood hazard analysis for FEMA and nearshore ocean depth (bathymetry) surveys, unmatched worldwide in their accuracy and coverage. Particularly important to the Outer Banks is new FRF technology that will help researchers better predict how hurricanes and nor’easters change our beaches.FRF encourages the use of its facilities and data by other government agencies, universities and private companies throughout the year.A visit to FRF’s homepage will give you more info on its operations, as well as daily stats on weather, water temperature, waves and warnings on any current coastal hazards. The facility is closed to the public.

As everyone can see just walking past this store, many of the mild-weather recreational activities that can be done outdoors are covered here. Racks in front of the store are filled with fat tire beach cruisers, kayaks and surfboards. Inside, surf gear and beach wear ---bathing suits, shorts, shirts and dresses, pants and hoodies ---fill racks and shelves.

Sitting on 300 acres of maritime forest in the heart of Southern Shores, Duck Woods Country Club is the perfect venue for golf, tennis and social events. The Town of Duck held it’s first Yuletide Celebration in 2011, and its popularity established it as an annual event.Taking place on the first Friday and Saturday in December, the Celebration begins with local merchants keeping their doors open later on Friday to help shoppers find those perfect gifts for friends and family. Locals and visitors are treated to holiday sales,  refreshments and entertainment as they stroll through this quaint, scenic town all decked out in festive holiday lights and decorations.A number of  local restaurants join in the festivities by hosting the Duck Tapas Crawls, offering a plate of tapas and a cup of cheer for one special price.On Saturday afternoon the Yuletide Celebration moves to the Duck Town Green, where Santa shows up riding in a fire truck just after 3:30 p.m. In exchange for donations to the local Food Pantry, local restaurants offer refreshments, while local artists entertain with live Christmas music. After winners of the Town-wide "Business Decorating Contest" are announced, the celebration culminates with the lighting of the Town Tree.Meanwhile, and again into Saturday evening, participating local restaurants and shops keep the celebration alive with more special promotions, refreshments and holiday sounds.

Located in a historic gun shop next to the pond in the Waterfront Shops in Duck, a visit to Duck’s Cottage truly is an experience to savor. Owner Allen LeHew, a self-proclaimed java junkie, uses only the best coffee beans from a small roasting company in Lexington, Virginia.

Night climbing starts in June of 2019! FFAP is an Aerial Adventure Park overlooking the beautiful Albemarle Sound. Platforms range from 12 feet to 50 feet high. Climbers take the action into their own hands by choosing to go on the easiest of the courses (Tropical Storm) or going all the way up to the most difficult (Category 5). The platforms are installed on utility poles.  From an aerial view the course looks like outer bands branching out from the central tower, which is the Eye of the Hurricane. There are 6 courses with 7 obstacles on each course. The obstacles are designed around a beach theme using ropes, cables, wood, barrels, stir-ups, and even a hammock. The higher up the central spiral staircase you go, the more difficult the obstacles are. At the end of each course there is a short zip back to the central tower. Have no fear, climbers will be in a harness and on belay for the duration of the climb. Typically climbers will complete 3-4 courses (21-28 obstacles) during the 2 hour climb. Guides take care of the climbers and make sure everyone stays safe!  So bring the whole family and experience and adventure like never before!

Here visitors can choose between two go-kart tracks – one slick track for more advanced drivers and one family track with single and double karts. Kiddie karts are also available for children 5 years old and younger. After racing around the track, head over to the bumper cars and test your driving ability. Riders must be more than 48” and can be any age. No trip to the beach is complete without a round of miniature golf. At Frisco Mini Golf and Go-Karts, golfers can show off their skill with an 18-hole championship course in a natural environment with waterfalls and goldfish ponds. Looking for some food while having all this fun? Head over to the concession stand for your choice of hot dogs, nachos, soft pretzels, chips, cotton candy, snow cones, soft ice cream, milkshakes, drinks and more. Mini Golf is $8 per person and children under six are free. Go-Kart rides are $9 and bumper cars are $5. Kiddie cars are also $5. Start Your Engines! Full Throttle offers gas powered go karts on two exciting tracks for the entire family. Drivers must be at least 51 inches tall to drive. Double seat karts are available for adult drivers with passengers at least 2 years old and no more than 51 inches tall. Rookie racers from 41 to 51 inches may choose to drive our Junior karts. Cool down with a shaved ice or soft serve ice cream from the Pit Stop, located between the tracks. Our Figure Eight Track can accommodate up to 20. Perfect for large crowds on a hot summer night!

WHEN IT'S HOT, OUR WATER MISTERS WILL COOL YOU OFF SO YOU WILL ENJOY PLAYING! This is a fun, inexpensive miniature golf course located right across the street from a large beach access—so you can spend all day at the beach, rinse off and go play putt-putt! It has two courses, each with 18 holes. The theme is outer space, with a lava-formed volcano in the center spouting a waterfall. Mixed in nicely with flowers and small trees, you'll encounter spacemen, aliens, a big other-worldly elephant, and various spacecraft throughout the course, which is trimmed with bright colors. More than 2,000 shipwrecks sunk off the Coast of North Carolina in what’s called the Graveyard of the Atlantic. With all that history floating around, it was only natural to build a museum to honor and preserve the maritime culture of the Outer Banks. A state-of-the-art structure, the year round museum houses and displays artifacts, and presents a variety of exhibits and interprets the rich maritime culture that includes war, piracy, ghost ships and more.
