Located beside the Outer Banks YMCA main building, the YMCA skatepark welcomes skateboards, rollerblades, bikes and non-motorized scooters. With a cement bowl, ramps and a street section, the park, one of the largest on the Outer Banks, has posted rules for usage and is open during daylight hours. Since it’s outside, hours are subject to weather closures. Be warned that the skate park is situated in the middle of asphalt with no trees around, so there is not much shade. Refreshments are available in vending machines, but it would be a good idea to bring your own drinks and snacks. Young people age 12 or under must have a parent present to skate, and youth age 17 and younger must wear a helmet and knee and elbow pads. Users must register inside before skating, where safety equipment is available at no extra charge. Helmets only must be worn by park users age 18 and over. Fees are available by the day or the week, and are discounted for Y members and North Carolina and Nags Head residents.

30 YEARS IN THE MAKING. Since the beginning, the Weeping Radish has brewed beer according to the Bavarian Reinheitsgebot Purity Law of 1516 which states that beer must be brewed using only four ingredients: Hops, Malt, Yeast and Water. No additives, chemicals or preservatives may be used. Uli Bennewitz came to North Carolina in the early-1980s and decided to open a microbrewery similar to the ones he’d left behind in Bavaria.
There are few locales on the Outer Banks where multiple roads cross paths, and Whalebone Junction is one of the main intersections along this barrier island shoreline. The term refers to the area in South Nags Head where three major highways converge, which are US Highway 64, US Highway 158, and NC Highway 12. Both US 64 and US 158 end at this juncture, but NC Highway 12 continues south from this locale, all the way to the end of Hatteras Island, and across the Hatteras Inlet to Ocracoke and Cedar Islands.
