Bob's Bait and Tackle has been in business since 1975, and bring you over 37 years of fishing expertise! They ensure that you have access to daily fishing reports for pier, beach, sound, and offshore fishing expeditions. If you do not have your own rod and reel you have the option of conveniently renting as many as you need from their supply. Bob's Bait and Tackle presents you with the options of both fresh and frozen bait including XXX large bloodworms, crab bait and supplies, as well as instructions on how and where to fish and crab.

One of the original surf shops on the Outer Banks, if not in the state of North Carolina, the quaint and friendly Cavalier has been at the same Beach Road location for more than 50 years. It’s been owned and operated by the same local family for close to 30 years, so you know this is the real deal.  Not only does the shop have a lot of customers who come back every year, now they’re seeing children of the repeat customers coming back every season.  At 1,300 square feet, the shop is a simple square building built right at ground level across from the beach. It’s had some close calls, but somehow it has survived numerous hurricanes and nor’easters. A photograph taken after the infamous Ash Wednesday Storm in 1962 shows the devastation on the oceanfront, and there’s the Cavalier sitting intact in the midst of the mayhem. Despite its compact size, the shop is stuffed top to bottom with all a surfer would want: top brand surf clothing and footwear; surf gear and accessories; boards, beach chairs and umbrellas for sale or rent. Surfing lessons are also available, and loyal customers and lovers of Outer Banks heritage can pick up Cavalier T-shirts.  

Corolla Adventures is a family owned and operated business. The Meredith family has been providing vacationers with entertainment for nearly two decades. My late father opened The Waterworks, a watersports rental store in Nags Head during the 1980’s.

As everyone can see just walking past this store, many of the mild-weather recreational activities that can be done outdoors are covered here. Racks in front of the store are filled with fat tire beach cruisers, kayaks and surfboards. Inside, surf gear and beach wear ---bathing suits, shorts, shirts and dresses, pants and hoodies ---fill racks and shelves.

The camp store is at the entrance to the grounds.

Biking on the Outer Banks is a favorite past time. Many visitors and residents opt for a beach cruiser, taking their time to cruise leisurely using the bike paths along highway 12.

A branch of Kitty Hawk Kites, here’s a place where you can catch a boat to go watch dolphins, learn how to do various watersports, or just rent the equipment to go  have some fun in the water. The big dog of outdoor recreation on the Outer Banks, Kitty Hawk Kites knows how to help people make the most of the beautiful Outer Banks environment. Located right on the edge of Roanoke Sound off the Nags Head-Manteo causeway, this outlet offers kayak tours from sunrise to sunset in Manteo and Bodie Island, including a bioluminescence tour where you can paddle through green glowing water at night.  Experienced tour guides provide tips on proper paddling techniques for the easy-to-operate boats, and share fascinating details about wildlife, history and natural resources in the area. The two-hour dolphin tours are held on a real research vessel and conducted by a dolphin scientist. 

We specialize in luxury 6-seat LSV Golf Cart rentals! Servicing Corrolla, Duck, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head. Our golf cart rentals are different from the others! Our golf carts are registered Low-Speed Vehicles (LSV) that are street-legal and can be driven on any road posted 35 MPH or less. Our golf carts will be delivered and picked up directly from your vacation destination. Serving the Outer Banks for more than 20 years, the store opened in 2005 at the current location.  There are not too many businesses where you can bring your laptop in for service, and look at some guitars, mandolins or drums while you’re waiting. A whole range of PC computer services are offered, including virus and spyware removal, repairs, upgrades,  and flat panel and laptop screen repairs. Used systems are also available, and custom systems can be designed for restaurants, hospitality businesses and property management companies. On the music end,  a variety of new and used instruments and music accessories are for sale at the shop, with many displayed on the walls. Also, the store buys vintage and used instruments. This is a great source for wedding and club DJs, bands and musicians. Instruments and PA equipment are also available for rent.

Locally owned and operated, Rock-A-Bye Baby boasts that it is the only full service kids store on the Outer Banks. This store may look small from the outside, but don’t let appearances fool you. It is stuffed to the gills with charming, irresistible baby, toddler’s and young children’s brand-name clothing, toys and gear, from birth to size 7. Owner Cindy Floyd, who has been in children’s retail for more than 31 years, clearly knows her product lines. From merchandise for pregnant women and fun gifts for baby showers, to christening and baptism gifts and preemie and newborn items --- bedding, diaper bags, rattles --- to bowls, silverware, furniture, baby jewelry, baby slings, and of course, kiddie OBX T-shirts --- you can find it all here, both new and like-new. Need a pop-up beach cabana to keep Elmo out of the sun?  It’s here! There’s also a great selection of first birthday party items, and furniture and gear are available to rent.   

Rodanthe Watersports & Campground is a hub for outdoor activities. The whole family will enjoy taking advantage of a host of lessons and rentals including jet skis, wave runners, sailboats, kayaks, body boards, surfboards, beach chairs, umbrellas, wetsuits and more. Located on the Pamlico Sound, they have a warm, shallow water area perfect for all activities.  They also offer soundfront and soundside campsites for tents and RVs under 25 feet.

One of the oldest authentic surf shops on the Outer Banks, Secret Spot has been surfer-owned at the same location since the early 1980s.  Store founder Steve Hess started board shaping in 1971, and his world-renowned boards have been ridden by many of the Outer Banks’ best surfers, and by many others from Hawaii to California to Australia. With its ceiling covered with surfboards, the shop offers custom made Secret Spot Surf Boards and used boards, body boards, skim boards, as well as skate gear.  Board rentals and surf lessons are also available. A wide range of designer surfwear can be found here, including Rip Curl, Sanuk, Roxy, Rainbow, Lost, Oakley, Electric and O’Neill.  Bathing suits, hats, shoes, shorts, sunglasses, watches and T-shirts are available in a variety of sizes and styles for the entire family.  There’s even cool infant and baby clothes, and tropical gifts and surf art in stock.

Located in south Hatteras, Teach's Lair is a full service marina which includes a large Ship’s Store and The Roost Bait and Tackle Shop.The store is stocked full with just about anything you’ll need during your fishing trip or Outer Banks vacation. Along with fishing and boating supplies, the shelves and racks carry lots of T-shirts - short and long-sleeved - hats, sunglasses, cozies and convenience-store grocery items - including a large selection of snacks and drinks.“The Roost” Bait and Tackle Shop section of the store is filled with tackle, bait, fishing/crabbing nets and a huge variety of fishing rods for sale or rent - for boat, pier or surf fishing. Coolers and other essential supplies are of course for sale as well. Teach’s Lair Marina and Ship’s Store also does fishing rod repairs and promises to have whatever you’re looking for, whether your :interested in offshore, inshore or sound fishing  - or “wreck driving or dockage for your boat. Teach’s website offers links on lodging, fishing regulations and a daily fishing report. Even if you’re not coming to the Outer Banks to fish, you can still visit the marina for food and supplies and the beautiful Pamlico Sound views and breathtaking sunsets - or come and watch the boat Captains unload their daily catches onto the docks. The Marina and Stores are open year-round with an altered schedule off-season.

A little shop with lots of heart, The Music Store has been serving musicians and students in the Outer Banks area for over a quarter century.  Current owner Betsey Paulsen and her husband Mike, who once played with Eagles’ Joe Walsh, started the store as a family business 27 years ago. Though they moved a few times and Betsey ended up on her own for a while after Mike passed away, the shop remains a family operation with the couple’s sons now part of the team.Betsey is not just a business owner, her family is a vital part of the Outer Banks community, providing instrument rentals to all Dare County Schools, as well as a retail store for professionals and amateur musicians. And if she doesn’t have what you need on hand, she’ll order it.Not only that, she leaves her contact number on the door when the shop is closed, promising to meet you at for any emergency, which can often happen with kids’ performances. Whether it’s a broken reed that needs replacing or a professional entertainer who’s short a cable, Betsey will do her best to make sure the band plays on.In addition to rentals of about any instrument that’s taught, the Music Store carries a full line of supplies, along with music books, amplifiers and sound systems. The shop also provides instrument and guitar repairs and offers instrument and voice lessons.Whether professional, amateur, student or even  rock star wanna-be, you’ll find The Music Store in tune with all your needs and conveniently located on the Bypass (Hwy 158) at the Milepost 6 Plaza.
