Allen purchased the first location in Duck from Reid Carter, who started the concept in Richmond, Virginia. “When people would walk in, their eyes would light up seeing all those taps and the variety of beers that we had,” Allen says. “People were mesmerized.” When Allen, an Outer Banks native, found out that Carter was selling, she bought the Duck location and shifted its focus to showcase local and regional beers. “Reid had a great vision,” she shares. “I tried to take it to the next level and continued with that at the new store.” Both the Duck and Kitty Hawk locations boast up to 42 taps—with different options at each store—featuring local Outer Banks breweries along with regional and national selections. “We do have a large number of taps, but it’s the beer itself that really shines,” Allen explains. “We take a lot of pride in finding local and regional beers that are highly rated.” Purchase four and six packs or choose from more than 100 single beers that are already cold and ready to enjoy. Mix and match the singles to create a personalized six pack. When you visit, take some time to hang out and explore the array of flavors with samples, in-house pints and flights. The Outer Banks Brewing Station, established in 2001, is the first wind powered brewpub in the U.S. and an icon on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Look for the 92 foot wind turbine in the backyard beer garden. A pub by the classic European style of a ‘public house’, the Brewing Station considers itself an important member of the community and is family friendly during lunch and dinner hours. Families can enjoy live music, beer and food inside and out, while the little ones play on the pirate ship and the older ones play a friendly game of corn hole. It’s also a great place to wait for your table during the busy summer season.

Enjoy a true escape from the daily grind and take a break from the kitchen by enlisting the services of Outer Banks Clam Bakes for your family meals on the Outer Banks. This catering and to-go company offers a wealth of seafood boil options and southern fare to easily enjoy at the vacation rental home, with no preparation or extra effort required.

At Outer Banks Coffee Company we take our coffee seriously. We’ve been in the coffee business since 1994 and on the Outer Banks since 2000, craft roasting small batches of the world’s best Arabica beans. When you come in our store you’ll see our big green roaster right there out front, not tucked away in a warehouse somewhere… you can see the process unfold right in front of your eyes, and maybe you’ll get to smell (and hear!) the coffees as they tumble down into the cooling bin. We are proud of our roasting style – a slow gas fired roast that creates big mellow flavors that are never bitter. We think that after you try it you’ll be hooked, as so many others already are.

Two Outer Banks favorites, located at the Dunes Shops in Kitty Hawk, have merged into one even better combination under new ownership and a new name - Outer Bean Juice & Java and Seaside Gourmet. The new owner has blended both businesses that were once separately side-by-side with a tasteful, modern décor, which she enhances by hosting monthly shows featuring works by local artists.Along with other additions, the new restaurant features an Outer Banks exclusive fresh juice bar. You can start or end your day in the healthiest way possible by enjoying any number of combinations of nutritious and energizing fresh fruit, vegetable or combination drinks, along with smoothies and specialty coffees. Baked goods, snacks and sandwiches will continue to be available as well.Seaside Gourmet’s delicious meals are as great as ever and can now be enjoyed inside on the premises, as well as to go. The Gourmet prepares its meals using only local seafood and all the locally grown and organic produce that’s available. Along with fresh seafood entrees, blackened or herb-seared, they now offer a marinated chicken special, along with their yummy grilled or stir-fried veggies, complemented by their special secret seasoning recipes. As before, there are several outstanding vegetarian selections, including Gourmet’s one-of-a-kind havarti-stuffed risotto cakes. With a style they call “elegant simplicity” the Gourmet also offers individualized menus for weddings and other special events. The Gourmet serves lunch and dinner, with bagels, wraps and salads from 3 - 4 pm, and the coffee and juice bar is open at 7 a.m.

Donutz-On-A-Stick- where visual stimulation meets taste bud overload!   Carnival Treats at the Beach—With Flavorful Creations and Allergy-Friendly Options, Donutz on a Stick Serves Up Sweet Treats for Everyone   David and Stephanie were not always in the business of carnival confections. In fact, Stephanie was a fitness instructor and David worked in the computer field. But he loved donuts and she loved ice cream, and when they saw an opportunity to bring their favorite treats to beachgoers, they jumped on it.   In 2014, the couple opened their first Donutz on a Stick—a family-run, family-friendly dessert shop on the boardwalk. They quickly realized that in order to serve everyone, they would need to get creative. “We had a family who would come in, and one of the little boys would have to wait by the door because of his gluten allergy,” David says. “That didn’t sit well with us. We wanted everyone to come under the same roof no matter what kind of allergies they had. And we continue to work towards that goal.”   The Williams’ daughter Desireé spent six weeks experimenting until she created a gluten-free donut that was totally safe and delicious. Gluten-free donuts are now a huge part of the business, with more than 1,000 being served each day, just out of the Duck location. But you will want to call or stop by to reserve them in advance.   The Williams’ other three children, David, Justin and Christian, have all invented menu items as well, such as Christian’s donut milkshake, which features hot and fresh cooked donuts blended into a milkshake with another donut on top making it picture perfect.   While all the Williams have created menu items, the most popular pick—the donut sundae—was actually a happy accident.   “We were being featured in a local magazine and we could only have one photo for the article,” David says. Since both ice cream and donuts were equally popular, “we built the donut sundae for the photo and we discovered after the photoshoot that it tasted amazing. It was completely serendipitous.”   The Williams family is constantly creating and improving upon their recipes. At the heart of it all is a desire to see everyone come in and enjoy an experience together. They want to bring the carnival to your mouth.   “No matter how busy we are—even if there’s a line down the boardwalk—every customer gets that engagement and service from us,” they say.   The family has since opened a second location in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area.
